I want to affect people like a clap of thunder, to inflame their minds with the breadth of my vision, the strength of my conviction and the power of my expression.

Counterstate Films is a collaborative organisation run by Director/Producer

Jon Hardy alongside various skilled film makers and artists.

Our work can take on many forms - one day we’re making a documentary about the Home Office, the next is an animation to promote a local union or a short film about the housing crisis.

We do scripted drama, docs, animation, art pieces, promos, explainers and more.

Our primary aims are for political and social change, focussing on stories and themes of society, class, gender, race and the environment, all which reflect the current complexities people and communities face.

We make films that resonate and make a difference, films that are a significant part of our organising and activism and not just an add on.

Stories of people, places and events can reach a profound place inside a viewer and reveal a truth about themselves or someone else, forcing a reaction, unlocking empathy, educating a viewer, pushing to action – it’s in this spirit that we want to create more radical, social and purposeful work.

Counterstate Films is based in Bristol in the South West, UK.
