Dear Home Office - Production
Throughout 2020 we were part of the film ‘Dear Home Office’ about the treatment of refugees and Asylum seekers by the home office, originally we were bought in to provide animation sections to accompany the real voices of the refugees and Asylum seekers who were writing about their treatment. Due to the constraints around Covid, the project shifted considerably and we ended up coming on board to co-produce and shoot what was now a predominantly live action film short documentary.
The film was designed around Covid restrictions, so most of the shooting took place over Jan-March 2021 Lockdown but was enabled to be a single person shoot with no actors, mainly exteriors. As lockdown restrictions eased in the spring we were able to shoot with small crew in some interiors.
The short documentary is produced from the stories and voices of a group of refugees telling about their interactions with the repressive aspects of the home offices asylum system, from endless meetings, threatening court appearances, lack of funds, hostile interactions with the state and more - this is the story of the ways in which people are made to film incredibly unwelcome.
